Rhythm of Nations Night

On January 28th, 5 members of KSU Yosakoi took part in Delta Sigma Theta’s Rhythm of Nations night. The activity brought together dance groups from different cultures and allowed members of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, as well as the other dance groups, to learn different styles of dance. The Poize hip-hop team taught a hip-hop routine, and DJ Luis taught the group how to tango. Yosakoi was the third and final group to teach, and showed everyone how to dance Nengara-Nenjuu. The small group, which met on the second floor of the Union, was excited to learn the dance, and had a happy, energetic reaction to the upbeat song. QiuXia led in teaching the whole dance, which both Yosakoi members and those who attended the event danced together. The event was a great way to learn about different styles of dance, and to share a bit of Japanese culture as well as a lot of fun with other K-State students.

Final Performance for the Year. 08

Once again, we performed at the Meadowlark Hills performance Hall on
Monday, December 8 for American Association of University Women (AAUW).
We were, as always, very well received and performed well to our credit.
It was the last performance of the year and fortunately the ladies in attendance
were very curious about our dances and asked many questions. In fact, I would
say that they were one of the most involved crowds we have ever had. During this
performance, we danced three different songs and provided our audience
with a description about our club, our costumes, and some of the dance
moves from Soran-bushi. Their questions provided us an opportunity to
interact with them and share more about ourselves and our dance. It was
also a great pleasure to see their genuine interest in us and the
dances. That's about all; Good luck and God bless over the holidays!

We have been featured many times in the Collegian. This time was different though. We were a feature on the very front page. Yosakoi Opens Hunger Banquet with Performance

On November 6th, the Yosakoi group performed as the opening entertainment for the annual Hunger Banquet, put on by K-State Fair Trade Advocates. The banquet, which is an activity designed by the Fair Trade group Oxfam, is hosted at various universities around the country with the goal of raising awareness of global hunger and poverty. This year, Fair Trade Advocates invited Yosakoi to perform as an opening treat for those who attended the banquet. Six members of the group performed Yocchore for an audience of about 70 people. Despite some initial difficulties with the sound system, the audience responded warmly to the dance, and afterward several attendees told us the dance was their favorite part of the event.

Yosakoi Halloween Party 08

Give people a reason to gather and add food and fun shall always follow I always say. This Halloween... that's right we actually had our party on HALLOWEEN! We all brought different food items. More importantly we all dressed up in our best costumes. Of course we had games which with a language barrier made them all the more fun to play. We had a costume contest. Can't for the life of me remember who won. Oh well the best part of this was how fun it was to gather as a Yosakoi family and share in another memory bonding us as a family once again. I really don't have much besides that. Hope you all had fun and to all our past members wish you were here too.

KSU Yosakoi Homecoming 08

It wasn't horribly cold Oct. 23rd. Well not as cold as we expected it to be. We gathered outside of Penny's at the Mall and then walked to the very front of the parade where we would be some of the first to lead our school down to Aggie ville. The face paint was applied and we all stretched for the grueling task before us. It is ruffly 2 or 3 miles I believe that you end up dancing till you come to the finish line and we were ready to show the crowd our spirit. We had specifically asked not to be placed near the K-state band this year as we had been the previous year. The K-state band is a powerhouse and well deserving of its recognition. However when you take your ques from music... well you can imagine that would be impossible with a band behind you. So we were placed right behind the Army band. Well they are also powerful and so the parade began. At first we could hear our music and danced accordingly, but the Amy band kicked it up when the people began to cheer and so we were lost to their music. We improvised after that. Just free dance was the chant and we danced to our own music. This year sense we weren't dancing to our music we were free to better interact with the crowd and from the reactions I saw we were loved. Luckily when we got to the Ville the band and us were spaced out. Enough so that we could hear our music again and dance we did. Having basically saved up energy the whole way there by dancing and lite jogging we burst into a rare form and the crowd cheered us on. Bet your wondering how we did over all.
